ONE CLICK P&L

A Pilot alternative when you need a document, not a finance function

Pilot is a finance function you rent: bookkeeping closed every month, tax alongside it, and CFO and operations work above that, priced against how much the business spends. For a company that will need reliable books and investor-ready reporting for years, that is a serious answer and this product is not competing with it. For a small business that has been asked for one Profit & Loss covering months already past, it is a large commitment attached to a small request.

Keep using Pilot if

  • You need books closed every month, reliably, for the foreseeable future.
  • You are raising money or reporting to investors and the numbers have to hold up.
  • You want bookkeeping, tax, and financial advice from one provider.
  • The business is complex enough that a reading of the bank statements would miss things.
  • You want people accountable for the numbers rather than a document you sign yourself.

This is for you instead if

  • The request in front of you is one statement covering a stated period.
  • The deadline is measured in days and onboarding is measured in weeks.
  • You do not need books afterwards — you needed the document.
  • You would rather review the categories yourself than pay for someone to.

A finance function and a document are different purchases

It is worth being blunt that these are not really substitutes. Pilot's value is continuity — the books are right this month because they were right last month, and somebody is accountable for that. You cannot get continuity from a one-time reading and we are not going to claim you can.

What you can get from a one-time reading is the specific thing a lender, a landlord, or a preparer asked for: a Profit & Loss covering a stated period, signed by somebody who stands behind it, consistent with the returns filed for the same years. That request has an end. Buying an ongoing service to satisfy it is buying a subscription to answer a question.

The deadline usually decides this

Onboarding a bookkeeping service means connecting accounts, agreeing a chart of accounts, and getting through a first close before anything comes out the other side. That is normal and it is the right process when the goal is ongoing books.

It is the wrong process when the goal is a document due next week. If the deadline is real, produce the statement now and start the service afterwards if you want one — those two decisions do not have to happen in the same week, and letting the deadline drive the bigger decision usually produces a worse version of both.

Upload one statement and answer the request that has a date on it. Start from your bank statements.

Questions people ask

Is this a bookkeeping service?

No. There is no ongoing service, no monthly close, and nobody assigned to your account. It reads bank statements you upload and produces a Profit & Loss for the period those statements cover.

Will a lender treat this the same as a service-prepared statement?

Lenders commonly accept owner-prepared statements and the lender decides. What they generally look for is that it covers the stated period, is signed by somebody standing behind it, and is consistent with the tax returns you also provide. Ask your lender rather than assume either way.

Can I use this now and hire a service later?

Yes, and when a deadline is driving that is usually the sensible order. The document answers the immediate request; the decision about ongoing books can be made without a clock on it.

My business is complicated. Is a statement reading enough?

If there are several entities, inventory that matters, or a lot of money moving between your own accounts, a reading of the bank statements will miss things a person would catch. That is a real limit and a service is the better answer.
